Linguists estimate that 50 to 65% of all English words have Latin roots. Evidence overwhelmingly points to the value of instructing students in this area. What are some of the benefits? A good Latin and Greek word root base can:

  • Add predictability to word meaning
  • Provide a consistent decoding system
  • Strengthen reading fluency
  • Increase comprehension
  • Expand basic language skills
